Secretarial with Office Skills

Two year course (one block)

Entry criteria

GCSE English at grade C or above is essential. To continue on to the second year of the course, students must pass the first year exams.

Why study Secretarial with Office Skills?

If you are unsure of a career path or whether to go on to university, it makes sense to gain skills that will help you find that first job: that’s where this course comes in. Many students combine the Legal Secretarial Course with Office Skills with an A-level or BTEC programme.

The skills you will gain on this course could help you find work during College holidays and full-time employment in a legal office on completion of the course. This course does not lead to a CILEx qualification. For that qualification, please see CILEx Diploma for Legal Secretaries.

What do I study?

OCR Text Processing Certificate/Diploma - Levels 2 and 3

This includes:

• Text production

• Word processing

• Legal text processing

• Legal word processing

• Legal audio transcription

• Business presentations (PowerPoint)

Business communications

Business communications is taught practically using office scenarios. You will learn how to write and respond to business letters, memos, job descriptions, reports, agendas, faxes, emails and instructions/guidance notes.

Where next?

This course can lead to a career as a Legal Secretary, Personal Assistant, general secretarial, office administration, receptionist, medical secretary.
