Two colleges are coming together under one name to give students a competitive edge in the jobs market.
Seevic and Palmer’s Colleges will now
be called USP College – Unified Seevic Palmer’s.
The Seevic Campus in Benfleet and the
Palmer’s Campus in Grays, will remain and students will benefit from a stronger, more financially resilient college.
The new brand reflects the direction the college is taking – career-focused learning giving students the skills employers need. Students will not only gain formal qualifications but will develop professional skills desired by businesses.
Dan Pearson, Principal and CEO of USP College, said: “We are excited to announce a new name and strategy for our innovative, high-quality college which will give every student the chance to stand out and reach their full potential.
“By unifying, Seevic and Palmer’s Colleges are building on our strengths and heritage to provide even better prospects for students across Essex. We offer the widest range of A-Levels in south Essex alongside excellent Professional courses that lead on to university, higher apprenticeships and careers.
“Students at both campuses are able to join a College Company giving them exposure to employers, play in one of our award-winning sports teams and enjoy a wide range of enrichment activities and opportunities that will give them the competitive edge in the job market.
“All our students have the opportunity to access bespoke professional training over and above the requirements of the course they choose to study.”
Immersive classrooms have been installed which allow a seamless link between campuses, alongside dedicated study space for students to complete coursework or revise. The state-of-the art classrooms have 84-inch LED screens, side wall projectors and cameras that capture students and teachers.
Seevic College in Runnymede Chase, Benfleet and Palmer’s College in Chadwell Road, Grays successfully merged in August last year.
The colleges first laid out proposals to join forces and create a successful, strong and secure college to serve the young people and communities in South Essex and Thurrock in early 2017.
The merger, completed on 1 August 2017, took the best from both existing colleges to create even better opportunities for young people.
Both campuses will continue as previously and students will enrol and study at either Seevic or Palmer’s Campus. There will be no requirement for students to travel between sites.
Current students, and those joining the college this September, will continue studying at their selected campus and those due to enrol will be invited to the campus they have chosen to study at for a pre-enrolment event in July before the new academic year starts in September.
Gordon Haines MBE JP ACII, Chair of Corporation for USP College, expressed great excitement in the innovative and relevant direction the college is taking.
“Significant creativity has been demonstrated by the leadership team in forging the new profile, physical improvements to the estates and, most importantly, to our academic and training offering.
“We are now highly geared to ensure successful progression for all our students.”
Applications are still open for students wanting to start college this September. To apply to study at either Seevic or Palmer’s Campus, go to www.uspcollege.ac.uk
