GCSEs: Art & Design

Why study GCSE Art & Design?

Art & Design is an interesting subject which allows students to explore and express their own creativity. It is essential for further study in Art but, as employers are beginning to demand more imagination and creative thinking in the work place, can also be used to complement other creative or traditionally more academic subjects.

What do I study?

GCSE Art & Design offers students an opportunity to develop creative, intellectual and visual skills in several two dimensional media while exploring the work of a range of artists and designers. Students will be expected to produce over the course two projects as coursework and one as a timed examination piece. These could involve drawing, painting as well as the potential to use some graphics and photography. There will also be a chance to visit galleries as the work progresses.

Where does GCSE Art & Design take me?

This is an intensive course leading to a qualification. After passing, students could proceed to AS level and beyond in Fine Art, Photography or Graphics.

What do I need?

The course is intended for people who have an interest in Art, preferably some experience in it and who may wish to continue with it at AS level. You will also need a strong commitment to learning and good study skills.
