GCSEs: Law

Why study GCSE Law?

Each of us is involved with the legal system in one way or another throughout our lives, and GCSE Law will give students the opportunity to explore and understand the system they are part of. You will have the opportunity to critically evaluate the laws we make, developing the creative and critical thinking skills valued by employers.  You will also have an appreciation of the law that will be invaluable not only in your personal life, but also in your future working life.

What do I study?

  • The GCSE Law course offers students the opportunity to explore a wide range of legal topics, incluidng criminal and contract law.
  • Students will learn about the legal profession, including the training and work of Barristers and Solicitors, which will be of particular interest to students hoping to work in a legal environment.
  • The course also questions the nature of law in society; why do we have laws, who makes them and what influences the laws we have?
  • Students will also discuss, with reference to current affairs, the rights and freedoms they have and what limitations are placed on these freedoms.

Where does GCSE Law take me?

This qualification will be particularly useful for those wishing to pursue a career in the legal environment, which could include not only law firms but also law firms but also local government, the Police or Social Services.  Students studying for the ILEX Diploma for Legal Secretaries or BTEC in Business will find this course helpful.
