Excellent Results at Palmer's

Palmer’s College continues to maintain its reputation for academic excellence with its students gaining superb results for another year running. The ‘outstanding’ College saw its A-level pass rate on par with last year at 97%.

68% of A-level students gained A, B or C grades whilst 39.2% of the College’s A-level students attained ‘high’ A/B grades. 24 subjects out of 38 gained 100% pass rates in comparison to 20 subjects last year. A-level subjects with 100% pass rates included ICT, Biology, Economics, English, Sociology, Further Mathematics, Dance and Physics.

72 students obtained triple distinctions in their BTEC National Diploma courses, an increase of 13% from last year.

Mark Vinall, Principal of Palmer's College said: " We are delighted with the outstanding achievements of our students this year.

“These superb results reinforce what a fantastic year we have had and I am confident that we will continue to deliver brilliant results again next year.”

He added: “I am thrilled with the achievements of both the College and the students and offer my congratulations to all the students who passed and all the staff who helped make this happen."

Two of its students gained 4 As in their A-levels. Thomas Bridge from Basildon secured 4 As in French, Further Mathematics, History and Mathematics. Sonny Smart from Little Thurrock attained 4 As in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Sonny is one of our talented students who also secured a place on to Gordon Brown’s Fellowship Scheme and is currently in Brazil. Her parents will be sharing the fantastic news with her over the telephone with big celebrations planned once she returns home.

Thomas Bridge,18 from Basildon said: "I am absolutely over the moon, I'm really looking forward to university. however, I will miss Palmer's, the atmosphere was lovely, the teachers were fantastic including my personal tutor.  Without their teaching support it would not have been possible for me to be standing here with 4As. Thank you so much Palmer's!."

There were further celebrations with AS pass rates up 2% from last year to 87%.

Palmer’s College was rated as an ‘outstanding’ – Grade one College in 2007 by Ofsted inspectors, followed by Beacon Status in 2008. This year has seen the College being awarded the ‘two ticks’ kitemark for welcoming employees with disabilities. The College was also recently short-listed as finalists in the Essex County-wide Awards and the prestigious 2009 LSIS Awards. The College has also celebrated a number of student success stories this year.
